The long and short of it - I (as well as others)believe the Distant Lands deity system falls short of its potential. We'd like to hear some things you all can think of that would improve it. Get as detailed as you wish, nothing is to be ruled out as silly.

I don't really believe our deities demand much of us. They're just sort of there... they take our items when we tithe, don't hear from them really other than that. I can see where they fall short, how to improve them? I think making them more active would be role #1, I believe staff that are using possess are allowed to interact with mortals whether we have RP flags on or off? Maybe the staff can initiate a little RP by making some demands as deities. Also maybe the deities are a good opportunity for the staff to have some fun roleplaying! I know there aren't many of you, but I know all of you are enthusiastic roleplayers ;)

Anything I ever remember about interesting deities were from Greek Mythology, where the gods constantly meddled in mortal lives, good and bad, and also constantly had conflicts with each other. I have yet to see a god have a conflict with another god, that'd be something I would love to see :) Maybe even two gods selecting their best champions and forcing their 'puppets' to have a showdown in their name, even if they are friends. I mean.. the battle of Troy, one of the most fantastic romantic wars ever described, all inspired by a BEAUTY constant between a few gods, gods having scorn for each other could generate some great stories.

I was actually thinking of this the other day, about how I've barely ever been to my temple because, well, there's not much point.

I thought maybe if the Gods could be task-masters it would add more inter-activity. I think they should be limited to personal quests with perhaps greater rewards than regular task-masters give (i.e. 5 con points) or a reward of a special symbolic item that you need to find. Also, you could only see your own God for a task.

Great idea Hanaisse!

I like the idea of finding a symbolic item, perhaps there could be tiers on how high ranked you are with your god. You'd need to roleplay to be able to earn a crest that you can bear that's symbolic of your god's favour. Different order crests would make you higher or lower ranked relative to your god's favourite champions. Feel free to expand on this :D i think the idea has potential!

Ranked deity crests given as rewards for completing tasks is a good idea indeed.
We'll certainly keep that in mind for future possibilities. Thanks for sharing.

I don't want to do any tasks for my deity, just make me a slave. Mwahaha.

What a good idea. Gods have tasks / rewards, can't do this task / reward until you do the first one. Unlocking tasks. God rewards would be much better than world task because only those who follow that God and are at the appropriate level can do the task. So, maybe make the tasks level based. The God tasks could be set to Hero's. One more reason you want to become a hero. Maybe since you're a hero and have to rp, the task can be directed to find where you're going with your character to further make the player think how he wants to mold his character and how he'll behave during roleplay.

Temple items I like too. Maybe a reward is a temple item you can use instead of gold. I'm always up for more con, sitting at 5 right now. A temple crest that does something for you. It'd be like an extra slot that you can fill. But make the crest not totally destructable like they currently are. Maybe even just a one stop all on the crest. It's armor, and it shows everyone that you've reached a certain rank... omg, brain fart of genious. Each task you can do maybe gives you some exp/gold/con, but also gives you a crest of certain levels & stats. And each task you do, you get the next crest that does a little bit more for you. Hrm, wonder if there would be a way that you have to have the old crest in your inventory before you were given the new quest once you've completed the new task. Kind of like finding an item you have to turn in to show completion of the task. Oh oh, give the new item you've searched for, then the crest, and it registers task completion.

I think all tasks should give you mpp. You obviously had to rp to do the task, why not automatically give one mpp for each task as a reward. Just fuel to the fire.

My thoughts. . .
They use to be entities that'd appear before you and talk to you, but we upped the level playing on the fields od DL.

My suggestion, there are now 12 gods , whereas once 9. Note who follows who and make this chart a good note of reference.

Since we want the deities to be RP, well
find I'd hope atleast 5, but if not one per god, people who "can" think on their toes, adapat, and inerperate what a player is roleplaying, then place these particular incredible people as the Gods themselves..

Hell it's no a job everyone wants,
but it'd shape the activities a whole lot.
or maybe it's just the thought that if the player can't respect their god in rp, then wheew.
they're screwed.
