This is more because I'm curious than anything. What do you guys run? Do you prefer a CPU that you're not running? Feel free to explain!

Also, while you're at it, feel free to list some of the basic specs you use in your computer, along with the operating system you use. If you use a prefabricated computer that's fine. Just list the processor, RAM, and OS. :) Something like this:

CPU: Intel Q6600
Motherboard: DFI DK P35-T2RS
RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) OCZ Reaper 800Mhz
OS: Vista Ultimate (x64)
I just have a passion for hardware. This really is fairly pointless, hehe. I'd just like to know the gist of what everyone else here uses, and if we have any enthusiasts. :)

I must say, that's an awful lot of hardware for telnet!

I built my own machine around 4-6 years ago. So my hardware shows it's age.

AMD 2500XP
1Gb DDR
Abit Nf7s motherboard.
160gb SATA.
ATI 9800 Sapphire.
Windows 2000 Professional

Believe me, I'd much like to upgrade my hardware, but lack of funds is a factor. Anyone got some hand me downs? :)

Unfortunately, all my friends/family get my hand-me-downs before I have a chance to even store them away.

But I'll give you a good deal on a new PC! :)

For what it's worth, it's been a phenomenal system, despite it's age, it can still handle some newer titles. I've only lost one HD, (Which I was able to RMA) and the only other component to fail is a chipset cooler fan.

I've got a wicked system, man...

CPU: Intel Pentium-M 1.73GHz
RAM: 1GB PC3200 DDR
OS: Windows XP Professional 32-bit
Video: Mobile Intel 915GM

I've got a ridiculous computer at work, but since it's the property of my employer, I can't exactly say these are the specs for "my" computer... but, for enthusiasts/hardware geeks, here it is...

CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9650
RAM: 4GB PC6400 DDR2
OS: Windows Vista Enterprise 32-bit
Video: ATI Radeon HD 3650 dual-head (PCIe x16)

I *really* wish I could take that machine home with me :)

Not bad systems, to be sure. We're definitely diversified.

That Q9650 is a beast, man. I've had my eye on a Q9550 for a while (cheaper, and just as easy to overclock to 4GHz on almost stock voltages). Life would be good, indeed!

Again I mention, it's a little much for telnet. If I could find a NIC for my old 286, I could easily use that for DL! :)

Goodness Gracious, 3.0Ghz quad core, I drool in appreciation of your work PC
I always preferred my 3.0 dual core to most quad cores since they were never too fast in any single core... but ya
like i said, I drool :)

The messed up part is I don't even use a fraction of that power on a daily basis. The geologists and petroleum engineers have workstations that are even more insane than mine (as far as hardware specs go.) The computer itself, no monitors or anything, cost $10,000. I think they're running Xeon processors and somewhere around 8-12GB of RAM on Redhat Enterprise Linux. They do have some pretty insane programs that they run, though. The most intensive program I run on my work computer is Microsoft Outlook
