We purchased the sleepnumber bed model 5000. It was not what we tried in the store! It is very uncomfortable and we can feel the air bladder as we move around. The "pillow top" was a joke. If you sleep on your side, stomach, back, you'll wake up because it's uncomfortable and adjust your sleep number. Hence, since most people toss and turn, we were both waking up multiple times to adjust. If you sleep near the top of your bed, you'll have to move down a bit further because you'll be sleeping on the foam frame. If you get rid of your old frame, you'll be sitting on the floor. We made this mistake because we were told in store that the bed frame that came with it lifted it up off the floor a good bit, wrong. So, if you wish to have a higher bed, from the store, you can either purchase another slat thingy the bed sits on, or purchase the riser feet for it, an additional like $120 for plastic feet.

We went into the store with our concerns, and the sales representative asked if we had the king, like the model in the store. We have the extended queen. The clerk even said it would feel different. Well, I didn't finance different. "Thank you for purchasing this brand new car Mr. Turner, we'll bring a like model around right away for you." What I felt and laid down on is what I purchased and not what I received. You also have to pay to have it shipped to you... and to return it. It's costing me $120 debited from my refund amount to buy the shipping labels to return the bed that I'm unhappy with. Guess what? You agree to that when you purchase it, it's in the contract. Now we have to go buy 4 very very large boxes to return this in try to pack all this stuff up, and take it back to UPS to return it. We're keeping the pillows and bed sheets we purchased because the pillows are not returnable, but always exchangeable. The sheets, even though some unopened, we purchased on sale, and all sale items are final. Way to think that one out sleepnumber.

So, we'll return the bed in 7-10 days because that's how long it'll take to get the return shipping labels. We have to sleep on a crap bed, then once we return it, we have to go and find another bed to finance, get delivered, and hopefully enjoy. What are we going to buy? A double pillow top like we had liked in the first place.

So plenty of bads here, the only good? The pillow is very comfortable, there are many many options for the pillow and we just haven't found our combination, close.

I'm out. See ya'll later.

Okay, the cheap solution here (and one I used for over a year): buy some flat cushions (in my case, boat cushions ((came with the boat...))).

Put them on the floor. Get a sleeping bag. I slept in the livingroom of my parents house. It wasn't a bad solution. In the summer, I would move into the RV parked on the driveway! (The cushions were a tad softer!)

No, it's not the solution for you. It is the solution for a cheapskate who still lives with his parents, when the house has no bedrooms, and they sleep in the garage ;). (New house, I'm a basement-dweller now!)

Why I've let the Internet know this, I'll never know. But this is the kind of story you'll read somewhere on the Internet, so I suppose sooner or later, it has to be typed.

Sorry to hear about all the no-return hassles, and those hidden clauses,

Dref

This is interesting given the fact that Heather and I are planning on getting a Sleep Number bed as a Christmas gift to each other.

And I don't think I could even set foot in an RV after living out of a travel trailer for such a long time. Granted, the tiny travel trailer was better than living in the tent, but I think hurricane Katrina ruined camping for me :P

I was trolling around the forums and came across this topic. You know, I had completely forgotten about it.

Heather and I actually went ahead and bought that Sleep Number bed... and I must say it's the best $2,000 we've spent on an inanimate object. I don't wake up with back problems anymore and both of us wake up refreshed. The old metal spring matress we had was terrible but only five years old. It was one of the expensive ones, too...

The bed came in while I was at work so she set it up. The first night on that thing I felt a VAST difference in my quality of sleep. I can't feel any kind of air bladder like you're talking about (the whole bed is two big air bladders...) and can only notice the "hard spot" in the middle because my number is 30 and hers is 55.

For us it's WELL worth the money. I think you just got a stiff deal, man.

I hear many good and bad things about the sleepnumber but for us, after a month, it sucked big time. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
