Greetings,
Not too entirely sure if anything has mentioned this before but it struck my mind so I thought I'd make it a topic. The powers of the elements to help or hurt, to shield or destroy if you are lucky enough to have the spells and/or equipment to do so.
In short, adding to the game the powers of the four elements: earth, wind, water/ice, fire in spells and items. Currently there are spells that contain different aspects of this take the two most prevalent ones: ice shield and fire shield. Ice shield is just as it is a shield to guard against and used in conjunction to dissolve... fire shield! Fire shield being a spell that leaps out and attacks as its caster gets attacked. Why not add a little spice to the mixture and give them properties within themselves. With ice shield in place any ice spell casted would be severely downgraded while fire spells would leap in bounds in damage and possibly dissolve the shield o' ice. The complete affect would happen to the fire shield if an ice spell is cast.
The next step would be possibly to give weapons attributes as such. Let's say we give the firebrand some +fire attack so when they strike there is an opportunity that a little extra damage would be incurred (firebrand is merely an example because of the name). But, if I were to wear a.. let's say.. a ice blue shield of the frozen north that has some +fire defense, then that extra little bit of fire damage wouldn't mean much. Granted if I were to cleave at someone wielding my battle axe hewed from rock which has +plus earth attack it wouldn't have any extra benefits if I was using that shield to defend because only +earth defense could deter the damage.
Did I lose ya? Wind overpowers Earth, yet succumbs to Ice. Earth dominates Fire, yet fails to Wind. Fire consumes Ice, yet is stomped out by Earth. And, Ice freezes Wind, but melts instantly to Fire. That kind of idea.. and that actually took me longer to think up than it should have.
Granted it would take some tweaking if it couldn't be done through macro-ization since there is fire resistance and ice resistance, just none of the other two. Thought I'd bring this up and see how others feel about it.
Sincerely, Guildinator
