For quite some time now we've been discussing macros in the forums, on this old thread (click here if you are bored and have lots of time).

That said, this topic is not even close to dead, it just needs to be renewed. I've done a LOT of work on macros and they are extremely functional on the build server and the code is even now available to me in the game. It has reached a whole new level of capability. There are still a LOT of topics to discuss (such as library structure!) so please feel free to provide your thoughts.

This is not going to be a long post because what I want you to read is long. This takes time to digest, but I firmly believe the more people who understand this concept the better of Distant Lands will be in the end. Without further ado, I invite you to read the help files for all of the things that can already be done with macros:

Macros Help File (click here)
Dynamics Help File (click here)

I've already noticed that they do not render correctly (the color changes gets stuck) for me in Firefox, but they do appear correct under IE7. If you don't enjoy reading this in a web browser it is also available in the game as "help macros" and "help dynamics".

Please provide thoughts and feedback. Most importantly help me test this stuff so we can get ready for the best DLDS we've ever had.

Best regards to all,

--Nezmar

OK... I registered just to talk about macros and how much work Nezmar has put into them and how excited he is about the abilities they bring to DL. Being that I live with him I hear alot. Now most of you know I have been pretty much abscent from DL for quite sometime. I must tell you Nezmar has me almost excited enough to come back and use his brillant code to revamp many of my areas. Now if he can excite me I would hope that those of you who have not been abscent will get as excited and embrace what he has done and use it to make DL come to life.

Macros and dynamics is by far the most amazing code I've ever seen put into DL. It basically allows you to write code without actually writing code. Yeah, it sounds confusing, and the myriad of commands and functions seem overwhelming, but it's actually pretty simple.

The macro and dynamics code has been written so that it's nearly like natural speech. Every command has logical structure and is easy to understand, if you take the time to examine them. With macros, you have the ability to do anything from make a mob that slaps you when you slap it to brand new spells and skills without having to write a single line of C code. You don't even have to understand how the actual mechanics of the game works to use this code, and that's the most beautiful part about it.

I understand how macros and dynamics work, and I understand them very well. I'll try to give help to anyone who needs it, but my time (as usual) is limited. I'm in the middle of house hunting, Heather is hitting the 3rd trimester in her pregnancy, and I'm starting a new job with Chevron today... but I'll do my best to help!

That being said, if you read through the help files, you can see that just about anything is possible when using macros and dynamics :)
