Finally got registered after hunting endlessly for the authorization email, found it in the junkmail box, thanks Myrrima :P

One on One arenas challenges! I've wanted to see this implemented forever, everytime I enter an arena, there's usually just one player I would love to kill, whether it's a friend or a foe. 90% of the time another mob or player ends up killing that person or me first. I think consequence free player duels could really add a new element to the game aside from the running around loading items gig and leveling. I'd think the format would go something like...

challenge <player> <coins>
insert player name for whom you'd like to fight, and how many coins you'd like to put up to fight that person, that person would need to put up the same amount of coins and winner take all, 0 and 1 coins would be viable numbers for friendly challenges.

other player would see something like:

Alysandir has challenged you to a duel for 500 coins.

Accepting the duel would be the similar form of accepting a guild invitation. you'd type "challenges" and have a list of challengers and you could accept or decline, and if they're on too long they'd time out and disappear, maybe put a 5 hour in game timer on it like arena start times.

Dreylor added on an excellent idea for this with the idea of a new ranking system similar to the one we have but for one on one duels. A stats sheet for wins/losses/ties and so forth. A point system would be an interesting aspect and greater points for beating players higher than you on the ranking list or with a large level difference. A monthly constitution potion for the person on the top of the list or something to that affect would be a nice reward.

Guildus also suggested a betting feature which I thought would work very well, syntax would go something like,
Bet <player> <coins>
pretty straightforward, probably harder to implement though than i think, not sure who you would bet, an automated system with low odds or bet other players. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Finally, problems I see in implementing this, the big one I'm wondering how to get around would be the full heal after arenas. If you could challenge at any time players could abuse this and fight just for full heals.

Two solutions I see to this, one would be only being able to duel at certain times, perhaps an hour at 12AM and an hour at 12PM or when a staff member is around. Second solution which I think would be better, after the duel you're restored to the same amount of HP/Mana/Power you were at when you entered the challenger arena. Although the second would probably be more difficult to implement since it differs from the regular arena code the most, i think it would be the best.

Being able to challenge players anytime in a consequence free environment could add a really fun element to the game and a nice way to settle scores or satisfy friendly rivalries. Feedback Please!

These are very good ideas, thank you. Just to add a bit to the documentation and the thought process, I hope to actually code this one day, it has been on my "todo" list for about 2 years now. It is a monster and I haven't been able to allocate the time and energy necessary to code it properly. I believe it addresses several of your ideas. It is in outline format because the rest of it is still in my head. ;)

o Tournaments
    - Optional restrictions: flying mounted, mounted, non-mounted, mounts optional, RP, non-RP, one-on-one, !weapon, level, class, deity, group, guild, invitation only, !magic
    - Player or Staff sponsored/created
    - Keep track of winners (like arena today, maybe provide more detail)
    - Coin or Item prizes for Players (others for staff) - random treasure type?
    - Dynamically created rooms/NPCs so multiple tournaments can take place at the same time. Multiple terrain types for rooms, setable by tournament sponsor (presets only for players).
    - Setable time maximum time per round (minutes?)
    - Add tournament parts (task/quest style) for Fear Factor style elimination based upon time with timer above prompt
    - Optional break time between rounds (seconds?)
    - Multi-type start times - Either minutes/hours/days or machine time
    - Team vs. Team with max level/total levels? Guild/Deity based? Can we also set mobs as different teams? Say Bealzin and Minos team 1, Aziraphale and Gerrard team 2, players team 3? Wars - Team vs. Team with many NPCs add to both sides (to help balance the levels and make it more interesting)
    - Ability to use "groups" to make teams?
    - Sponsoring player can make coins if tournament is profitable
    - History of Tournaments (Limited)
    - Tournament channel
Side project also required in order to implement tournaments (groups is another side project which could be impacting -- my notes on them are not included here):

o Terrains
    - 1 or more dynamic rooms, based upon unlinked "model" rooms from a regular zone
    - Exits are configurable in a semi-random or fixed configuration
    - Size can be per player or fixed
    - Can be linked/activated outside of tournaments (permanently) to create larger sky/ocean/road/desert areas
    - Can be linked to other terrains

Feel free to provide your thoughts/ideas. I do intend to write this code someday.

Best regards,

--Nezmar

I feel like a postwhore today. I think its a great idea to challenge for individual arena's and yes i think to avoid the FH you could do two things, one you already suggested, and that is returning them to there previous hp before the start of the fight. The other, is easy, limit the number of times somone can challenge in a day to 1 time. however let them "be challenged". worst case scenaraio everyone ends up fighting everyone for a full heal and its no differant then an auto arena but then once everyones used there challenge up for the day, well i guess thats it. the ability to only challenge once per day "24 hour real life ticker" would probably work for most things.

Again another thought for digestion.
