I would love to see a more versatile emote command. Foremost would be the ability to target a player or mob with an emote. Also, being able to determine where your name or short desc appeared in the emote would rock this and all surrounding worlds.

Yeah, I know this isn’t an original and revolutionary idea. And for all I know it’s already on the never ending ‘to do’ list. Or maybe there is some reason I am missing as to why it shouldn’t be implemented.

In my opinion: if improving roleplay in this game is a high priority, then improving the emote command should be as well. It’s not like it will end up as some rarely used and obscure spell, skill, or command. People would use it all the time, even if they aren’t in character. It would be the most awesome thing added to the game since the ‘thinks’ command.

emote With the whiny voice of a fully-looted newbie @me begs @nezmar to open the pod-bay doors.

While it would be nice to be able to target players with an emote, I've always relied on the safety of no one being able to create a custom room message that might mimic something concerning. Then again, even targeted emotes could be used for deception.

Maybe a richer emote command could only be available during RP. Even though very serious messages tend to be colored, there may need to be some conditions in place to prevent misuse.

Yeah, although i like the general idea
of such advanced emotes it could lead
to some misuse, like levune said.

People will not be able to mimic room echos. Their name or short desc would have to be included in the emote. But if their short desc was exactly the same as a mob or another player it might cause some confusion.

As far as people misusing the emote command with inappropriate content, well, that can already be done with the current command. If it were to be done with an improved emote command it would just be more graphic and creative. At which point a staff member would appear and give you the kiss of death and ban you from using it again.

And if anyone is concerned about emotes being used to set off your triggers to get you to do things that you don’t want to do.. Well, that’s what you get when you have your client play the game for you.

Cheers.

I expect this to be implemented in some form within the next month or so (provided other ideas are not given a higher priority). It has been something we've been planning to implement for a while.

Best regards,

See help emote in the game for information about the changes that have been implemented. You still have to have your name/description at the beginning of the text, but if you start your emote with ' it eliminates the space, so you can do Nezmar's for possessive and you can also add some simple targeting in now as well.
