Someone needs to sit people down and go over the basics again. This is just getting to the point where it shouldn't even be called Roleplaying. I mean seriously.. Its not hard to understand the concepts of RPing. Have you never RP'ed with someone else in real life??? (IE: the bedroom).

This is just some of the stuff I've seen this year:

Cover up your face, IE: items that hide your name -

Honestly.. What is the purpose of having these items in the game if nobody even takes it into consideration? Mainly for thieves and assassins. These items are to help them not be discovered (name). Time and time again people ignore the items and automatically assume they know the person in RP, even when that character they are playing has NEVER met that character before!

Multi-playing / Meet & Greet -

Each character has his/her own separate mind. Just because one of your characters has met someone in rp does not mean now all of your characters now knows that person. Just because someone has told you about a character in rp does not mean, you now know who that person is without laying eyes on them.

Short Description vs Long Description -

This cannot/should not be a valid description of another player in RP. Just because you seen (just an example) a "handsome" human stealing something, should NOT give anyone valid reason to now hunt down any "handsome" human they come in contact with. Not paying attention to your surroundings and who is around you, is your own fault. What is the purpose of having a personal description? If everyone just uses the short description as a valid excuse to attack.

I don't expect much if anyone at all to respond. You know who you are.

Stripping your character of equipment before you roleplay to steal something from someone isn't good form either. At least as bad as the previous mentioned grievances.

I assume this is mostly referring to the incident which occurred the other day -- I've just now had time to look into it (my apologizes for that, RL has been crazy BUSY) -- everything I saw looked within tolerances to me. I determined that while all 3 players involved committed some minor infractions (really more bad form than anything), no major rules were broken.

Please remember that just because you do not perceive something as being right doesn't mean others will perceive it in the same way (especially from the perspective of their character).

There is no doubt that roleplaying on Distant Lands is currently not as sophisticated as we'd like it to be, but really, I think that pretty much applies to all parties. We don't currently have anyone capable of taking it to the levels of Grel/Malifaxis. We'll make more progress if we all try to work to get there together. That doesn't mean you can't steal or kill people, only that you need to realize that when you take such action, it is likely to create some type of reaction. As long as the actions and reactions are kept in character it is considered fair game.

You know what else is bad form? Creating havoc and then requesting my time to sort it out because you don't like the way it ended. Especially when it was all within the rules and guidelines provided. I'd rather be coding. But then you know that.

Best regards,

Fine. Crappy rping. I die. Fine. My only problem is, these characters had no idea who I was. Yet they can stop fighting in rp and run straight to a house that (just my luck?) has the thiefs equipment inside of it. You honestly think there was no conversation outside of character with that? It was (to me) so very obvious. How on earth did these two characters know who I was and where I lived? You know what.. I'm just wasting time again, LOL. Take it easy. Have a good thanksgiving.

Why must everything always be extremes?

When you go out stealing, you should wear what a thief would wear... equipment that will allow him to protect and conceal himself appropriately (especially if he should come into contact with say city guards). A thief doesn't go out thinking, it's ok if I die because I will still have my things at home. That makes NO sense.

Bad roleplaying begets bad roleplaying, what do you expect? From my perspective, you've got it exactly right -- it was a completely inappropriately targeted thieving where they got lucky and actually stole (at least some) stuff from the intended target. However, they were trying to play their characters, even if they did so poorly (like you). So strictly speaking, it was within the confines of the rules.

Best regards,

I must say it's quite a saaad state of the game nowdays when players in RP go inside other peoples houses to loot/explore/whatever and then destroy fountains and other items inside. :shake:
