I've definitely pushed to try to get a good scenario to get Araya the blacksmith back up and running in Turien! But things really have seemed to vanish like a fart in the wind, and it's sort of slipped my mind lately, but not forgotten completely! I'll still rant about getting our blacksmith back :)

I'm hoping somebody might be able to post suggestions for how to get him back... or some history on why he left, I wasn't playing this game at the time he left.
Exact same goes for the ruins of our bank, and the fact that Ferth the banker isn't around. I honestly have no idea why the bank is burned down, or why Ferth fled the city and I've been playing for over 6 months!

While these two roleplay scenarios are must haves I'd be happy to see players posting scenario ideas to boost the enthusiasm and creativity of the game masters and staff of Distant Lands! I'm happy to add ideas for roleplay scenarios, so far Hanaisse's is the only one I've seen!

Idea #1:
so Calamar finds a trap, and has absolutely no idea what it does! Being the trapmaster that he is, curiosity drives him mental! Although he fears using the trap on himself might cause permanent damage, he decides to sift the city of Turien for guinea pigs! Calamar offers a 100 thousand coin reward for anybody brave enough to try this newfound trap. Some idiotic but headstrong PC (*there's too many players to choose from that decide to roleplay stupid blunt headstrong characters :)*) decides to try the trap!

Voila, he ends up about half dead, but he is healed and seems to be in fine shape... all of a sudden he sees the face that healed him and can't remember who it is. In fact his whole memory gets fuzzier by the minute... he can't remember what city he is in, who the people around him are, or what his own name even is! Obviously the good avatars of Turien decide to come to the rescue and work towards getting this brave but foolish player his memory back, and of course he'll/she'll tag along for the ride happily trying to remember what they can.

Calamar pays his 100 thousand coins and all the players helping decide to split the loot among themselves as proper payment for helping their comrade regain his memory. I'd say the probable solution should lie with Shaler, the master of potions. So Shaler comes up with a concoction of ingredients to make a memory enhancing potion... but of course a few of the ingredients he needs are rare beyond belief and next to impossible to get... but our brave heroes/heroines of Turien will try their best!

I suppose that's a good set up for a scenario, hopefully somebody else can finish it... I'd be happy to finish it, but it's funner to leave stories unfinished and see where things go from another's perspective.

There is already a plan in place. The RP took place months ago to start to bring back Araya and rebuild the bank. Players haven't wanted to pony up the cost is all. Read further back in the RP boards. ;)

I think the majority of the player base's reaction was evident... now I only speak for myself, but my impressions was that players wanted to ROLEPLAY to get Araya and Ferth back, not simply pay them large amounts of money, the amount of which isn't even listed. I just don't see the strong sense of roleplay from some apprentice posting on the board for everybody in Turien to hand over as much money as they can afford.

I never really saw any roleplay from the apprentice myself, just a post on the board demanding money. I just fail to see the creativity in that... I know everything will never happen entirely the way I want it, but I would be a lot more enthusiastic about roleplaying to get Araya and Ferth back if they were in some sort of mortal danger and needed to be rescued, or their long lost son needed to be found, something meaningful, opposed to the fact that they're too cheap to come back and do their job and be paid to do their job unless they get some sort of bonus to help rebuild. In Araya's case his shop is just closed, why would he need financial aid? And wouldn't it be funner to rebuild Ferth's bank ourself instead of just handing over the loot it costs to rebuild it? Or maybe providing a service to a builder in return for the aid of rebuilding our bank. Also shouldn't the CITY of Turien be paying for the costs to maintain the city and important functions such as banking and the flow of money? Has Gryjal no way to fundraise the money or take responsibility for helping to rebuild the city?

I also think having a LEGITIMATE amount of money would be a GREAT motivation for people to pitch in instead of some obscure large amount of money. Although I still think asking players for money is the wrong route, if it is in fact the route the staff wants to undertake, please give a real amount. It's hard to pay X amount of gold when you don't know what X is. Gydin has already contributed a large sum of gold on behalf of the Advocates of the Genesis. I'm assuming nobody else is pitching in because they don't know how much is needed to be put in.

The difference is that it could be NEGOTIATED IN ROLE PLAY.

If you and others wish to role play it then DO SO.

THINK!

Well I'd roleplay more with my guild... but we kinda of can't because of this idiotic rp that Eracules started. Our whole guild is wanted and none of us want to die. I still have to copy/paste my newbackground to get approved to kill something in rp aside from the lil rp's that I made up to get a level by killing the mimic at guard isle. During rp, the AOG offered and posted financial assistance and everyone in town scoffed at it then said that Turien should rebuild itself, etc, etc. I made a mailing offer to Alysandir from the AOG of 1 mil gold coins I believe as well. I'd love to rp looking for a new blacksmith, workers for the bank, what-have-you. I'm sure most in the Advocates would be happy to rp and help out, but not with this stupid Eracules rp that none of us wanted.
Gydin.

Gydin and I already discussed this some in the game:

Don't be afraid to role play this out... If things start to get out of hand they will get balanced out some. We will not allow mass killings without HUGELY valid reasons for it, all of which I can not imagine happening. Except for an actual Gods war, where the gods all come down and slay one another, I can't see any reason for mass slayings. Use this role play to explore your characters, who they are, what they will and won't do. Learn to play passive aggressive characters, learn to plot and scheme, do covert damage from behind someone else's robes...

Don't let the real life you stop you from playing and have fun. Enjoy PLAYING the GAME. Let lose, enjoy, ROLEPLAY!

Well put! There is always more than one way to do anything, roleplaying included. Giving up and calling everyone and everything in an RP 'stupid' doesn't do any good and you don't have any fun.
Trials, in real life and in the game, give you a chance to see who you are. To show everyone else what you are. Roleplaying is a living breathing being. But it must be fed and groomed before you take it to show hoping for that blue ribbon.

Agreed, thinking about roleplays with a onetrack mind is a sure way to get stuck in the mud(no pun intended, but i laughed when i reread it), that's the fun of roleplaying, nothing has a for sure outcome :) things can go ANYWHERE. Glad to see the direction this went by the looks of things on the board, Gydin. Definitly not what i expected to see which is what i love to see :)

Well, someone I know pushed me into making the rp happen. Things got cleared out. That rp got out of hand, good to see Odamius back in rp mode to set things straight. It was a fun time in the roleplay, made me learn some things about what I want the character to be. Took me a while to get a quick rebackground approved. Myrrima likes to get on to people about things. But it's all things that I hadn't thought about. Now, with my "fear or rp gone" I can join in on some things and put in my 2 cents to add to the fun.
My guild will still support the effort to get Araya / another blacksmith back into the town and will support the rebuild of the bank. I can't say much more than that because the rest is rp and to my character, Odamius speaks for many. My guild will just be here to help with his permission. Alteast, that's how my character sees it.
