I think the forums have been a great resource, however I feel that maybe a few of the more similar sections could be merged to make posting a little bit easier. While sections improve organization and allow people to find what they want, at the current scale of users I think it may be beneficial to keep things simple for now and then add as the demand grows.

Personally, I can't imagine myself not wanting to read any types of posts that have to do with DL, so having numerous categories can add a few steps when browsing the forums.

Here's a suggestion of what a more compressed list could look like:

Announcements
--Rules and Policies
--Game Announcements
--Website Announcements
Game Discussion
--General Distant Lands
--New Players
--Roleplaying (DL)
--Idea Box
Help & Support
--MUD Clients
--In-Game Help
--Tech Support
General Discussion
--Roleplaying (outside DL)
--Off-Topic

"In-game Help" may even be able to be merged with "New Players" (sorry, Landor), but perhaps you could mention that topic within the category's description.

While it seems to follow the structure of most other forums out there, simplicity and familiarity aren't always so bad. I'm happy we have forums and that there's now a rich environment to post messages to the DL community.
