Just as the title suggests, a new version of the DL client is being worked on. Right now, it's in the planning phase, which means I'm currently fleshing out ideas for what features this client will contain.

So far, I've just come up with copying the same features as the current DL client, but totally revamping the interface. I'd also like to add multiple window support (and get rid of that forsaken fullscreen mode) for things like having your tells go into one mini window, your hp, moves and stuff in another one... but have everything FULLY customizable.

The most significant thing about the new DL client is that it will run perfectly on Windows XP (and hopefully all other versions of Windows) and probably most Linux and MacOS machines. My aim is to make this cross-platform and also make it so players actually want to use it!

So tell me what kinds of features would you like to see in a DL-specific MUD client?

*fangirl squeal*
YAY! A REVAMPED VERSION OF THE DL CLIENT! THANK YOU!
*coughs and assumes a more serious stance*

Knowing me, I'm probably the only one who religiously uses the actual DL Client because the status prompt that pops up every two seconds with the other 'normal' clients drives me up the bloody wall. Having the health, movement, xp bars visualised in front of you was a blessing, I swear.

New features? *thinks* I think the only time I felt it to be inferior to the other clients (with exception of that stupid full-screen thing) was during grouping with others where you can't see their health percentage.

Hrm what else. Ah, copy and pasting plus highlighted links. But I'm sure you know abt that already.

No seriously, I'm happy with the DL Client as it is .. it's just that if those little quirks were fixed, I'd be over the moon.

Ah! Before I forget. I don't know if its the actual client itself but I found that it refuses to work with ATI graphic cards. Only with nvidia. (okay I know that ATI drivers suxorz but still... odd) and also, I could not get it to work under win2k for some stupid reason.

Well.. good luck! :D *keeps fingers crossed*

You know, I did not know it didn't work with ATI. I could have sworn it worked on my old desktop with my RADEON card in it. Or it could have been just before my ATI card when I still had that old Matrox G400.

I didn't think it liked specific chipsets, because as far as I know, it just uses pure DirectX for rendering. Now whether or not ATI has good DirectX support (it SHOULD, if not ATI is stupid for not having bleeding edge DirectX support) is another story.

And you can't get it to work on Windows 2000? Strange. The only OS I've ever know it -not- to work on was Windows XP, and that was moreover a hit and miss.

Group health (or at least the leader) status, gotcha. I didn't even realize that was missing from the current client, heh. Copy/paste will be included naturally (maybe multi-line paste support, we'll see how that one works out) and clickable hyperlinks out the box will be included also. I'm trying to make it as customizable as possible so you can tailor it to your specific needs/wants :)

And as I've said before, I want this to be a client the players actually WANT to use, especially if you don't want to shell out the money for zMUD, PortalGT or other 'high-end' clients... or don't like raw telnet or gmud or what have you. That's why I want to know what features you guys want.

Keep 'em comin! :)

The client has always worked under XP for me - just as long as I did that whole win95 compatibility thing. In Win2k, the win95 option wasn't there so .. yeah.

And as for ATI ... well, I'm assuming that it works with the older older ATI cards... or maybe its a combination of ATI and windows XP? - I bet you its the drivers.

I would like to see some more advanced features in the DL client, such as auto mapping and triggers. Its a beautiful GUI to me already, just lacks many features.

Seeing as how triggers are illegal in the game it's not something I'd recommend having in the client. That's what alias's are for.
